HISTORY

Over a century ago, when Apache Indians and buffalo roamed the land, a German immigrant crossed the Atlantic in search of a better life. With little more than $150.00, Anna (Melbus) Martin, along with her mother and siblings, made her way to Texas. There they joined their uncle, Louis Martin, and settled at Hedwig's Hill in Mason County along the banks of the Llano River. Anna married in 1859, and she and her husband operated a store. Anna kept a weigh station for the stagecoach, sold groceries, and made butter for the folks at Fort Mason. In 1901, Anna and her sons became the operators of the local bank. The Martin family operated The Commercial Bank until 1958. Over the years, the Martin family was quite successful and managed to acquire a nice-sized chunk of the state they now called home. In 1916, the Martin family home was moved via a team of horses to its current location. Throughout the years the home has been renovated; slowly changing from a humble Central Texas homestead into the impressive manse that it is today. Six generations after Anna, enter Mrs. Homer Martin and her son Homer Martin Jr. and family, Tracy, Alana and Jonathan, proprietors of what is now known as the Homer Martin Ranch. The courageous, hard-working spirit that drove Anna still drives her ancestors today. Now the Martin's are swinging open the doors to the Homer Martin Ranch and offering the chance to share in the beauty of their 3,500 acre spread. Come and visit the Homer Martin Ranch, located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.
