Dear Hunter:
We thank you for your interest in the Homer Martin Ranch. We are very proud of our ranch and the facilities. Our intentions are to provide an enjoyable and memorable experience for you. With this in mind we extend an invitation for you to hunt with us.
We remind you that our lodge and cabins are available for family reunions, youth groups, Christian retreats and business seminars. Fishing in the river is excellent and Spring Turkey season should be the best in many years.
Please feel free to e-mail me if you should have any questions.
Thanks,
Homer Marin
Our goals are:
The 2500 acre Homer Martin Ranch is located in southern Mason County, Texas. The ranch, which is bordered on the north for several miles by the llano river, is located in an area with the highest deer density in the world. Rolling limestone hills covered by live oak, post oak, mesquite, whitebrush, persimmon, and prickly pair are slashed by numerous draws. The ranch is a 2 hour drive from Austin and San Antonio and 5 hours from Dallas.
The ranch has been in the Martin family for 6 generations. It was founded by Ana Martin, a pioneer German settler who also founded a bank in Mason. Mason was the site of Fort Mason, a frontier army post that guarded the area from attacks by the Comanche and Apache Indians who lived in the area.

You will stay in one of nine air conditioned / heated cabins in a central camp. Private sleeping arrangements are available for women or married couples. A separate lodge available for your use includes a fully equipped kitchen and dinning room, fireplace, and game room. Nearby are the fire ring, barbeque pit, screened dear processing area, commercial ice maker and walk in cooler. All cooking and eating utensils are furnished. You must supply your own food, linens and towels. We will continue to make improvements to the lodge and cabins. Moderate alcohol consumption is permitted only after hunting is completed for the day. Please do not abuse this privilege.
For the past 29 years, the ranch has participated in a game management program in consultation with professional wildlife biologists. The goal of this program has been to produce a high number of mature bucks of 8 points or better. Due to the lower deer population and implementation of a protein feeding program in 2004 we are witnessing an increase in body weight of both sexes and antler development in the younger class of bucks. By the year 2009 the results of the protein feeding program will be evident in all age classes of deer. In addition to deer and feral hogs, the ranch is home to a large turkey population.
The ranch offers twenty-two spincast feeders as well as 13 1000# protein feeders. Hunters must provide their own stands and will not be allowed to hunt or harvest within 150 yards of the ranch deer feeders. Hunters will be allowed to bait their own hunting areas. By implementing this change, we hope the deer will not become too skittish, reducing the chance of wounding deer and/or harvesting immature bucks. In addition, areas are provided for hunters who wish to furnish and erect their own tree-stands.
We are a ranch that is interested in harvesting mature/post mature bucks and does which are considered to be five and half years or older. We will make every effort to educate hunters in the different criteria used to field age deer. Each hunter may take two deer (1 mature buck and 1 doe), 1 turkey, and unlimited hogs. To qualify as trophy, the buck must be at least five and half years old and exhibit other desirable traits in regards to basal circumference, antler mass, tine and beam length. Hunters must be willing to allow younger immature bucks to walk and become more selective and deserving about what they are willing to harvest, or we will never see the full results of the protein feeding program. Any buck not meeting the five and half year age requirement will be deemed a penalty buck and a $300 fee will be assessed. There will be no exceptions. Deer wounded but not recovered will count to your allotment of deer. Cull bucks to be harvested will be determined after surveys are completed in august. Anyone killing a coyote receive a $100 bounty and anyone killing a bobcat will receive a $50 bounty.
We continue to place our primary efforts towards weekend hunts with a limited number of weekday hunts available. We prefer to do group hunts when possible, but ample dates are available for those unable to organize their own groups.
The basic hunt fee is $475 for a three day hunt beginning at noon on the first day, and ending at noon on the fourth day. Each year we reevaluate our prices. All hunts are a three day minimum. All days must be in succession. Hunts in excess of three days will be charged $100 per day after the first three days (cost includes lodging). All hunts are by reservation only. No walk-ins will be accepted. All reservations must be made and deposits received by 5:00 PM on the Wednesday preceding the hunt. Each person must pay a deposit of $225. Make checks or money orders payable to Homer Martin, Jr.
A separate reservation form is required for each person in your party.Do not bring a friend along to hunt if that person has not paid a deposit. Do not bring a non-hunter along a reservation and deposit has been made for that person. Non-hunters will be charged a rate of $30/night for lodging. Hunting rates are negotiable for younger children. No one may check in before noon on the first day of the hunt. At check-in you must pay the balance of the fee in cash. No checks or credit cards will be accepted. Following payment of the hunt fee and orientation, you will be assigned a hunt area and may begin hunting.
Refunds for deposits will be made only if cancellation notice is received no later than 60 days proceeding the beginning of the hunt. There will be no exceptions to this policy.
By paying your deposit, you agree to the following rules. Read them carefully.
ATV’s are not allowed for use on the ranch during hunts. We recognize the convenience of ATV’s, but we feel they are detrimental to the quality of hunting. NO EXCEPTIONS.
