Three-fourths of all American birds are represented in Texas, so it is no surprise that the variety of birds who call the Homer Martin Ranch home is so vast. No other state offers the birding variety that Texas does. In fact, Roger Tory Peterson, who is, to bird-watchers what Elvis is to rock-n-roll, devotes an entire volume to the state: A Field Guide to the Birds of Texas. The Hill Country region of Texas offers large flocks of wild turkeys and countless resident and migrant species. The banks of the Llano River attract a variety of water birds, fleet footed Roadrunners who love the open terrain and another rarely seen bird, the Painted Bunting, has been frequently documented on the ranch. American Bald Eagles have also been spotted on the ranch annually around Christmas staying throughout January. Now if a sight like that doesn't make ya stand up and salute, we don't know what will.
